Mayank Yadav’s outstanding effort of nine 150+ scorchers, three wickets, and an IPL 2024 record against PBKS altered LSG’s destiny.

The Punjab Kings took their chase of 200 wickets by storm, led by captain Shikhar Dhawan, who reached his half-century with flair, and Jonny Bairstow, who made his IPL 2024 debut with a strong start in the powerplay. The PBKS openers put together a 102-run stand in 70 balls, looking good for their second victory of the season.

The Lucknow Super Giants, however, had a different plan. At Holy Rummy Stadium, just when things seemed to be going well for the visitors, LSG unleashed the highly acclaimed speedster Mayank Yadav. During his middle-over stint, Yadav struck an amazing 155.8 kmph delivery and took three wickets as LSG pulled off an amazing comeback at home to win the 2024 Indian Premier League.

Mayank was called on in the tenth over of the second innings on Saturday in Lucknow. The rookie, who had been sidelined by injury for the whole Ranji Trophy season, was a big influence as LSG’s first player. Although the world of cricket was taken aback by his first delivery’s speed gun reading of 150 kmph, it was evident from the apparent view of his deliveries that he was quick.

The opening ball of the 12th over had Dafabet fastest delivery of the IPL 2024, but Dhawan looked wildly inconsistent against the length ball as he was defeated. With a velocity of 155.8 kmph, he made the quickest outing ever witnessed in the tournament.

Following two deliveries, Mayank took his maiden IPL wicket with a shorter ball on middle and leg after Bairstow misplayed the pull towards Marcus Stoinis at deep mid-wicket. When Prabhsimran Singh returned for his third over, he was dismissed by the same delivery. At mid-on, when the PBKS batter hurried into the draw shot, Naveen-ul-Haq took the lead. Mayank ended his tenure with three wickets for 27 after taking three wickets in four balls. In his last over, he also removed Jitesh Sharma in a similar fashion, with Naveen making another catch at mid-wicket.

Mohsin Khan took two wickets in the next over, causing more damage that Punjab was unable to overcome. The visitors were reduced to 178 for five in the end, and Lucknow won by 21 runs.

I never thought it would launch with such a powerful impact. felt uncomfortable before to the game betway. I tried to keep up, aiming for the stumps. “I was originally considering using slower ones, but I stuck to the quick ones,” said Mayank, the Player of the Match winner.
